Orchard Gate

Orchard Gate

This Gothic gateway was erected by Buchan as the entry into his orchard, and as a memorial to his parents. The Latin wording, inscribed thereon, translates as: "The Orchard was planted by his own hand by the Earl of Buchan, in honour of his excellent parents." Orchard House, nearby, was built for the gardeners of this orchard, which extended to 14 acres.

These cottages, now one house, were originally built to house the gardeners for the Orchard and Estate.
